T-600 Step Up Transformer/MC

The T-600 MC Step-Up Transformer is engineered exclusively for music reproduction. It enhances playback performance while offering improved usability, unlocking the full potential of MC cartridges.

To reproduce the delicate and detailed signal of an MC cartridge, it must first be amplified to the same level as an MM signal. While some amplifiers achieve this through electrical circuits, Phasemation recommends using a transformer for signal boosting. This approach offers not only ideal impedance matching but also eliminates the need for a power supply, thereby removing a potential source of noise—an important advantage.

The T-550 was the best-selling model in Phasemation’s lineup of step-up transformers. Building on its success, the sound quality has been further refined, and the T-600 has been newly designed with improved ease of use.

The T-600 is the successor to the T-550, featuring enhanced sound performance through the adoption of a newly developed transformer.

At the heart of the T-600, the transformer has undergone a comprehensive redesign of its manufacturing process. Improvements such as precise control of wire tension during winding have resulted in greater expressive capability and more refined sound reproduction.

The unit supports both balanced and unbalanced inputs and outputs. Each channel is equipped with one balanced (XLR) and one unbalanced (RCA) terminal. For superior sound quality, Neutrik XLR connectors are used, while the RCA terminals are gold-plated. Unlike the T-550, the T-600 allows users to select between balanced and unbalanced inputs.

A “PASS” mode is also included, enabling the use of MM cartridges and high-output MC cartridges without the need to change connections. Whereas the T-550 supported only MC cartridges, the T-600 allows MM cartridges to be connected in advance and selected via the input selector. High-output MC cartridges that do not require step-up can be used in the same way.

The chassis structure and internal layout are optimized for pure signal transmission. The compact enclosure houses the transformer within a shielded cover to suppress magnetic flux leakage, while a floating structure with damping rubber effectively reduces unwanted vibrations.

To ensure clear and precise playback, gold-plated connectors and contact switches are employed throughout. The signal path is kept as short as possible, and a rotary switch with gold-plated contacts is used for BALANCED / UNBALANCED / PASS selection, preserving signal integrity and delivering clean, natural sound reproduction.
