Cryogenic treatment brings this world-famous budget speaker cable to new heights! Like other cables in the DH Labs Cryo series, T-14 Cryo is far smoother, clearer and sweeter on the top-end than the cable it is based on. To distinguish this Cryo edition from regular T-14, this cable receives model-specific badging, a handsome purple and black woven jacket and custom DH Labs connectors.
T-14 speaker cable was designed to provide the highest quality sound at a much lower price than competing cables. It uses the finest materials available, including silver, oxygen-free copper and a pure PTFE dielectric. From the deepest bass to the highest treble, T-14 provides an incredibly transparent sound with precise imaging and a large, deep sound stage.
The cable is completely manufactured in the USA.The process begins with strands of high-purity Continuous CrystalTMcopper, which are individually coated with a thick layer of silver. The strands are then tightly wound and extruded with our PTFE insulation, one of the finest dielectrics available for speaker cables. The cable has a very low capacitance of 21.5 pF/ft. The inductance is also very low, which allows consistent performance with a wide variety of speakers. In fact, a ten-foot length of T-14 cable has less inductance than the output stages of many amplifiers! Vibration damping spacers and a tensioned wrap under the jacket hold the conductors tightly in place, and the cable is completely free from resonances and microphonic effects that cause loss of resolution.
DH Labs' quality is second to none. Every spool of Silver Sonic cable is tested, and the PTFE insulators used therein exceed Mil-Spec.
What is going on with CRYO Treatment and Audio Cables? Despite all the wild claims, DH Labs believes the only truthful answer is that no one really knows for sure. The exact mechanics of the process are proven by metallurgists to increase the strength and durability of metals. With cables, it is speculated that the crystal boundaries of the conductor are being changed/improved and that the dielectric material also experiences a positive improvement.
Physical/mechanical properties of the metal appear to be altered which is why an instrument like a French Horn will have superior resonant qualities after cryogenic treatment. From a subjective standpoint, common evaluations of cryo-treated vs non cryo-treated cables are:
Wider Dynamic Range
Smoother, More Refined Highs
Better Bass Articulation/Extension
A More Organic Presentation
Deeper & More Dimensional Soundstage
DH Labs has developed their Deep-Cryogenic processing specifically for audio cables and connectors. This consists of a computer-controlled, slow cool-down cycle down to the temperature of nitrogen at -320 Degrees F. By introducing these lower temperature by means of a heat-exchanger, they are able to prevent the materials from being “cold-shocked” by direct contact with liquid nitrogen. Once the materials reach -320 degrees, they are “cold-soaked” for an extended period before being slowly ramped back up to ambient room temperature. The best part is that once treated, the cryogenic effect becomes permanent!
