Typhon-X High-Current Power Station

The Typhon-X power distributor combines a maximized version of Shunyata Research’s most impactful patented circuit, the QR/BB, with its advanced TAPc technology. Designer Caelin Gabriel refers to the QR/BB as the “engine” that drives the performance of Shunyata Research’s finest power cable and power distributor designs. Acting as an energy-reserve circuit, the QR/BB makes peak energy more readily available to current-sensitive electronics than the wall outlet alone can provide. TAPc removes additional layers of electromagnetic noise, producing an unmistakable improvement in the performance of amplifiers and other connected electronics. Dynamics become more vivid, transient response more immediate and spatial resolution more three-dimensional. For amplifiers, recording consoles, or other high-current components, the Typhon-X delivers an unprecedented level of performance, whether used only with amplifiers or as a two or three-component power distributor.

The Typhon-X’s custom-designed 30A Amphenol twist-lock power input and its substantial internal wiring system are an ideal platform for high current applications. The Amphenol connector features massive, precision-machined contact surfaces made from solid Tellurium copper. This confers exceptionally low contact resistance to peak energy transfer. To support optimal performance, Shunyata Research also manufactures dedicated 30A capable power cords for the Typhon-X utilizing custom military-grade copper connectors.

The Typhon-X has earned widespread professional and critical acclaim for its high-current capability. The proprietary Amphenol inlet connector and outlet connector require power cables that are specifically built for this application.

Transverse Axial Polarizer (TAPc)
A Shunyata Research patent pending technology originally developed to improve the performance of their reference cables, TAPc technology is a radical advancement of their original TAP technology which enables a significant reduction in the size of the modules – which for the first time allows this technology to be applied to power cords.  The sonic results of TAPc include a cavernous drop in perceived noise floor, effortlessly portrayed dynamics and a superb rendering of timing and coherency. The sonic benefits of  TAPc technology are quite simply unique and cannot be replicated by any competing product or technology. Even to an untrained ear, the effects of TAPc are immediately apparent and repeatable across a variety of components and systems. In essence, the TAPc modules are force-multipliers which elevate the listening experience to a level most could not imagine possible.

QR/BB™ Module
The QR/BB™ module acts as an electric charge reservoir, meaning it stores and releases energy in a manner that improves a component’s access to instantaneous current. Dynamics are actually improved reducing any sense of dynamic strain often heard from amplifiers that are connected with lesser power cables. Noise Isolation Technology (NIC™)
The NIC™  is a patented technology which greatly reduces high frequency power line noise. NICs™ use a non-reactive ferroelectric substance that actually absorbs high frequency noise. This lowers the noise floor without any of the negatives associated with other methods, such as power filter coils, capacitors and transformers.  US Patent Number: 8,658,892

Dynamic Transient Current Delivery (DTCD)
DTCD™ Analysis is a technique which measures instantaneous current delivery through low impedance electrical conductors and contacts.  Shunyata Research uses this tech to optimize their designs and improve specification and construction of parts and materials to ensure maximum current delivery performance.  Each part, conductor, noise circuit and material allows for maximum throughput of instantaneous current. Listeners will experience earth-shaking low-frequency performance from even the highest-current amplifiers as well as dynamic contrasts unheard of outside of a live event.  More than any other design parameter, Shunyata Research’s skill in eliminating resistance and maximizing peak-current delivery is unmatched.

CCI™ Noise Reduction
Traditional power conditioners are designed to block incoming noise from outside the home, but do not address the noise that is generated by the electronic components themselves. In fact, most conditioners reflect noise back into other components connected to the power conditioner. CCI™ (Component-to-Component Isolation) is one of the most significant but often overlooked aspects to power system performance. The CCI™ filter consists of a proprietary multi-stage filter that reduces electrical noise and interference generated by a component’s power supply.

CopperCONN™ CONNECTORS
CopperCONN’s™ internal metals are culled from solid copper and use a high-tension spring-loaded contacts for vice-like grip.  This contributes to a measurable improvement in DTCD™ performance and a correspondingly obvious difference in audible performance. CopperCONN™ connectors deliver measurably lower-resistance connections to unlock the performance of any component and system. Outlets for the Everest-X (US Only) are platinum-plated for the highest level of sonic purity and electrical transmission possible.

ArNi® Conductors
Shunyata Research’ designed their ArNi® conductors to be the finest quality wire available for power and audio purposes. These conductors start life with the highest purity copper available, OFE C10100 (aka Ohno single crystal). These are then formed into “virtual hollow tubes” dubbed VTX™.  The core of the conductor is completely hollow forcing the current to only travel through the periphery of the conductor, therby eliminating skin effects and random eddy currents. Finally, all ArNi® wire undergoes Shunyata's proprietary KPIP™ process.

Kinetic Phase Inversion Processing (KPIP™)
Shunyata's proprietary Kinetic Phase Inversion Process dramatically reduces burn-in time and significantly improve sonic performance. KPIP is a four-day process which is an essential part of why their products deliver such a relaxed and life-like presentation.

Vibration Isolation
Shunyata Research developed their own ‌vibration isolation after years of research. By using sub-miniature accelerometers to accurately measure the effects of floor and airborne sound waves, Shunyata was able to create vibration absorbing materials such as energy absorbing footers, AC outlet gaskets and chassis dampeners to reduce the negative effects of resonant vibration. In keeping with this approach, Everest's chassis is made with optimally dampened steel and aluminum materials.

Cryogenic Processing
Shunyata Research operates its own on-site Cryogenics International computer-controlled cryogenic plant. Liquid nitrogen is used to slowly lower the temperature of the chamber down to -320 degrees Fahrenheit. This close to absolute zero, molecules will slow their vibration and slowly pull closer to each other.  A sophisticated computer monitors and lowers the temperature by a single degree at a time which prevents thermal shock to the materials. The materials in the "bath" spend a period of time at this very low temperature and then the computer slowly raises the temperature back to normal. Once returned to room temperature, the materials have been physically changed for the better, improving their sonic and electrical characteristics. Shunyata uses this process to improve the performance of their connectors and various electrical components used in their power products and signal cabling.
