The PA 3100 HV is a further development of the PA 3000 HV, and most of its sub-assemblies are identical. The immediately obvious difference is the pair of VU meters in the front panel, which display the power generated per channel in logarithmic form in watts into 4 ohms.
A revision of the pre-amplifier section (DC coupling) brings an additional improvement in sound quality. A further development is the redesigned analog mains section and power supply, similar in design to that of the A 3000 HV. This allows connection of the supplementary PS 3000 HV mains section to further increase the stability and performance of the overall power supply system.
The additional unit provides an extra 1800 watts of supply power, enabling the system to control even the most demanding loudspeakers with ease, allowing them to deliver optimal sound quality.
Optionally, the PA 3000 HV and PA 3100 HV can be fitted with high-end phono pre-amplifier modules featuring different circuit topologies for MM or MC systems. It is also possible to install the analog signal processor module developed for the P 3000 HV, providing channel-separated tone and loudness functions.
The all-metal F3001 infrared remote control handset is supplied as standard.
As with the P 3000 HV, the circuit topology is based on a differential cascode amplifier with individually selected audio J-FET transistors and stages of fully discrete construction without operational amplifiers.
Due to this circuit design and the quality of the components employed, virtually no overall negative feedback is required. The high operating voltage of HV technology is key to excellent linearity combined with an extremely wide dynamic range: signals up to 60 Vss can be processed without distortion.
In the HV series, signal switching and adjustment functions are handled by encapsulated, gas-tight gold-contact relays that are immune to contact issues caused by corrosion, dust, or aging, even after many years of operation. The preamplifier also employs bistable relays, which require no permanent coil current, thereby eliminating any potential inductive influence on the audio signal.
Direct integration of the relays into the circuit minimizes signal paths, eliminating the need for connecting cables as required in conventional volume potentiometers. The volume control is implemented using discrete precision resistors and gold-contact relays, resulting in precise channel matching free from distortion and noise.
