Audience ClairAudient Bellare Loudspeakers, an innovative approach to loudspeaker design
Imagine a speaker with no crossover across the entire midrange and treble. A speaker with flawless tonal balance. One which delivers outstanding rhythm, pacing and timing. Delivering full frequency response, from top to bottom. A speaker that can be driven from virtually any amplifier. That speaker is here!
Pronounced Bell-ARE-ray, this is the most unique loudspeaker design in Audience's history, which is saying something. Primarily known for their bipolar designs, such as the 1+1 v5, Bellare is very different from their more recent offerings. First, this is a tower speaker and Audience hasn't had a tower speaker in their offerings since the early 2000s. Next, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first time Audience has ever incorporated powered woofers into their loudspeaker designs. Third, this is the first speaker they've ever built which includes Active Room Correction.
At the heart of Bellare’s extraordinary performance is its use of multiple identical 3-inch wideband high-resolution drivers which cover the entire frequency spectrum from 120 Hz through the midrange and treble, eliminating the need for a crossover or different types of drivers for the midrange and high frequencies. This results in remarkable sonic coherence, tonal purity, and imaging, with excellent dispersion. There are no phase anomalies, discontinuities in frequency range, or disruptive changes in the radiation pattern.
Why Bellare is different
The “perfect” loudspeaker would keep a single, phase-true radiator handling as much of the band as possible—then add the very lowest octaves without creating an audible seam. Many single-driver speakers can’t reach realistic volumes, and big planar systems often require massive power and demand space around the speaker.
Bellare solves both: a full-range driver array covers nearly everything you hear, while a robust, DSP-assisted active bass system handles the deepest notes in proper phase, so you don’t hear any breaks or handoffs—just music that arrives as it was recorded.
Easy to drive and endlessly pairable
Rated at 88 dB sensitivity, which sounds low by modern standards, the Bellare is very amplifier-friendly thanks to its well-behaved impedance and active-bass architecture. Amps with only 20 watts will deliver excellent performance - even at serious listening levels- while bigger amps will enjoy the same effortless load with full dynamic headroom. In practice, virtually any amplifier ≥20 W pairs beautifully, from single-ended Class-A tubes to high-current solid state.
Measured to sound natural
Impedance: never below 8.5 Ω; ~10 Ω at 80 Hz, gently rising to 16 Ω at 20 kHz (minimum at 500 Hz).
Phase: exceptionally well controlled, roughly –45° to +25° and near-zero through much of the midrange.
This translates to superior control, low distortion, and that easy, unforced flow that makes long sessions a pleasure.
Key performance highlights
Point-source design—no mid/high crossover
Sensitivity: 88 dB (easy to drive)
Frequency response: –3 dB @ 28 Hz / 22 kHz
Dynamic headroom: 105 dB continuous, no driver compression
Active bass: 300 W module, remote volume, auto room correction
Uniform dispersion & coherent imaging
Stable load with low phase shift
In summary
By mirroring how the human ear captures sound with how it is reproduced, Bellare reduces mechanical layers and artifacts from your music, which arrives with truer timing, tone, and space. This is why Bellare isn’t just another speakr, instead, this is a better way to build one. Bellare brings you unmistakably closer to the music.
The Bellare's impedance curve is benign and amp-friendly for both tube and solid-state amplifiers with an 88dB sensitivity and a minimum impedance of 8.5Ω. Only the 3" drivers are powered by the amplifier as the 7" and 10" woofers are powered via the internal amplifier. No jumpers required, the woofer amplifier receives signal directly from the binding posts.
The 7" mid-woof features a dual-mode crossover. With an active bandwidth of only 50Hz - 120Hz, the mid-woof blends seamlessly with the tiny upper drivers, adding much needed piston area to reinforce midrange frequencies . Simultaneously this driver bolsters the upper mid-bass of the 10" active woofer, thus fleshing out both ends of the spectrum without bloat or congestion.
The 10" active woofer uses a fourth-order low-pass crossover starting at 120Hz, providing a steep slope to ensure minimal bleed into the midrange frequencies while delivering deep tight bass.
Bellare architecture, at a glance
- Point-source above 120 Hz: identical 3" wideband drivers; no mid/high crossover or mixed driver materials.
- Active bass, done right: an internal 300-watt module powers woofer and mid-woofer directly, with remote level and auto room correction to tune your space.
- Seamless integration: your external amplifier handles only above 120 Hz; below that, it “sees” very high impedance, avoiding current strain in the bass.
- Room-filling realism: –3 dB at 28 Hz and 22 kHz with 105 dB continuous output—life-like scale without stress.
What you’ll hear
- Bellare speaks as a single voice, not a patchwork: vocals, strings, and transients lock in with coherent timing and natural tone.
- Stable imaging, wider sweet spot: the uniform polar response keeps the stage believable across seats.
- Real-world dynamics: up to 105 dB sustained output without driver compression—energy and impact intact.
- Low fatigue: smooth impedance and low phase shift help your amplifier (and your ears) relax.
A pair of Audience's proprietary 3" wideband drivers covers the entire midrange and treble, meaning there is no crossover in the critical vocal region, nor phase distortion as notes rise or fall.
The 7" unit functions as a mid-bass driver while the 10" unit operates below 120Hz. Both the 7" and 10" woofers are powered by the internal amp and the amplifier receives signal from the binding posts at the rear of the speaker. Electrically speaking, the internal amplifier presents virtually no load to the main amp, as far as the main amp is concerned the only load it sees is a pair of tiny 3" drivers.
The amplifier is a custom 300W unit which Audience selected after extensive auditioning and was chosen for its exceptional control of the lower frequencies. Although it's now common in the Audio industry to "power brag" by stuffing kilowatt amplifiers into every design, Audience found that a combination of these three characteristics made this amplifier the ideal choice; the large internal cubic volume of the chassis, the reasonable sensitivity of the design and the benign impedance curve of the woofers.
The 10" uses a 4th-order low-pass (LP) at 120 Hz. The 7" has a 1st-order high-pass (HP) at 50 Hz and shares the 4th-order LP filter at 120 Hz. This intentional overlap in the bass region is practical and works surprisingly well sonically.
The Bellare Impedance plot (blue line) rises below 100 Hz, reducing the power demand on the main amplifiers in the bass frequencies. Since the lowest bass is covered by the onboard amplifier, even 20 WPC SET tube amplifiers will have no problems powering this speaker. In fact, thanks to its remarkably stable impedance curve, Bellare is compatible with a wide range of amplifiers. Response is especially smooth given that there are no crossover resonances to wreak havoc. The Phase Response (red line) shows minimal variation and remains near zero across the midrange.
All in all, this speaker presents a very benign load to any amplifier.
