LMC-5 MC Phono Cartridge
Forty years without a cartridge of their own proved to be too much for Luxman to take. The LMC-5 leverages all of Luxman's considerable analog experience along with all the manufacturing experience they've gleaned over the last four decades to create a phono cartridge unlike anything they've offered before and a design they feel is unique in the market.
Boasting excellent tracking, moderate weight, robust output and gorgeous sound, Luxman designed this cartridge as a love letter to analog lovers across the globe. They've poured their heart and soul, plus every ounce of their creative innovation into this design... and it shows.
Phono cartridges are, by their very nature, highly sensitive to vibration, so crafting an inert structure as the chassis of the cartridge is of paramount importance. Luxman leveraged their high-degree of design and materials experience to craft a unique physical structure for the LMC-5. The shape, materials and design of the chassis creates a phono cartridge with very low tonal coloration, superior resolution and a smooth, extended and very natural tonal balance.
Prioritizing weight reduction and resonance countermeasures to isolate the generating mechanism nestled within, this svelte housing is crafted with a minimalist aesthetic. The outer chassis uses an inverted egg-shaped curve to suppress internal standing waves and minimizes acoustic reflections within. The machined aluminum body is then anodized to a deep red, one which brand afficionados will recognize as Luxman's corporate color. The laser-etched "L" logo on the front, provides a finishing touch which subtly asserts this cartridge's pedigree.
Each LMC-5 is hand-assembled with care in Japan by Luxman's dedicated team of craftspeople, delivering the best possible phono cartridge to music lovers worldwide.
Luxman has a long legacy of designing components for vinyl playback, including their beloved PD series of turntables and their E/EQ phono preamp series. What's surprising is that for almost forty years, they didn't have a phono cartridge for analog lovers!
A full two years in development, the LMC-5 is their best effort to date, providing an extraordinary listening experience combined with Luxman's unfaltering devotion to sonic quality. A lightweight and highly rigid Aluminum cantilever mated to a Shibata stylus provides exceptional groove tracing. Luxman built an internal very low distortion structure specifically to support this structure, featuring a single-point "piano wire" support system.
The MC generator features a cross-mounted iron core with symmetrically wound coils for excellent channel balance from Left to Right. The tiny field area of the iron cross reduces the possibility of external interference for far greater resolution and signal purity. This compact magnetic structure also allowed for significant weight savings as well as a more svelte overall chassis design,
Luxman's original lightweight aluminum headshell. Bearing the scripted Luxman logo, this headshell is built to very tight tolerance using exceptional parts and is wired with Luxman's proprietary D.U.C.C. ultra-pure copper conductors. This is a high-quality replacement for any standard headshell.
