In the design of the A 200 output stage, T+A’s objective was to combine maximum amplifier power with uncompromising audiophile performance. This results in a continuous output of 250 watts per channel, while maintaining exceptional levels of subtlety, resolution, and fine dynamic expression.

The heatsinks serve both a technical and aesthetic function. They ensure efficient heat dissipation even under maximum load, while also visually emphasizing the amplifier’s power capability through their distinctive industrial design.

The A 200 output stage is designed either as a powerful standalone addition to an existing system or as part of a precisely matched high-performance chain when combined with the Series 200 components.

T+A’s engineering philosophy prioritizes usable power delivered with efficiency and precision. To achieve an optimal balance of sound quality, output power, and efficiency, a new circuit topology was developed that integrates T+A’s HV technology and high-frequency sine-wave mains power supply design with PURIFI Eigentakt™ output stages. This approach enables raw electrical power to be translated into refined audiophile performance.

All circuits and circuit boards are designed and implemented by T+A’s development team, with the PURIFI modules fully integrated into the overall system architecture. The damping factor of the A 200 can also be adjusted to achieve a warmer or more relaxed sound character, depending on loudspeaker pairing and listener preference.

The A 200 Class D output stages incorporate PURIFI Eigentakt™ technology, developed by the Danish engineering company PURIFI. This platform is regarded as one of the most advanced fundamental designs for Class D output stages, addressing many of the limitations associated with earlier generations of digital amplification.

Conventional Class D amplifier designs have historically been affected by factors such as load-dependent performance, distortion in the output signal, phase noise, and increased distortion at high output levels. In contrast, the Eigentakt™ topology significantly reduces these effects through advanced error-correction and feedback techniques, resulting in exceptionally stable performance across a wide range of operating conditions and loudspeaker loads.

The defining characteristic of this architecture is its outstanding measured performance, making it particularly well suited for high-end audio applications where accuracy, transparency, and consistency are essential.

Features:

  • Extremely low distortion factor and intermodulation distortion at all power levels
  • Extraordinarily low noise
  • High damping factor
  • Clean clipping
  • Low losses, high efficiency
  • Totally linear frequency response up to 60 kHz
  • Completely loudspeaker-load independent characteristics (see measured curves into 4 Ohms and without loudspeaker-load)

Despite their advantages in terms of efficiency, conventional switching power supplies have an inherent drawback: they can generate interference in the form of switching noise, which may negatively affect sound quality.

T+A addresses this challenge with its High-Frequency sine-wave power supply technology. By generating a pure sine-wave output at a significantly higher frequency—more than twice that of conventional supplies—this design effectively minimizes such interference.

Any remaining residual noise is further reduced through the intelligent charging behavior of the reservoir capacitors used in T+A components. Through extensive development, T+A engineers have designed capacitor systems capable of recharging up to 100,000 times per second—approximately 2,000 times faster than conventional designs. This enables them to respond extremely quickly to transient signal demands and supply the precise amount of energy required at any given moment.

The sine-wave power supplies are designed as “hard” power sources, meaning they maintain a stable output voltage even under demanding load conditions. This ensures that the output stages are supplied with a consistently stable and reliable power source at all times.

T+A Intelligent Safe Control (ISC) functions in a manner comparable to the ABS system of a high-performance sports car. A dedicated microcontroller continuously monitors operating conditions through multiple sensors, tracking parameters such as temperature, load, and clipping states in real time.

If any values exceed their permissible limits, the system intervenes intelligently and precisely to restore safe operating conditions. This ensures reliable protection of the amplifier stages while maintaining optimal performance characteristics under all operating conditions.

T+A HV circuit technology is unique in its design approach and is employed within the voltage amplifier stage. The elevated operating voltage resulting from the overall circuit architecture enables exceptionally linear signal reproduction, supporting highly natural imaging and dynamic behavior across all recordings, without compromise or limitation.

This technology also minimizes the need for aggressive feedback mechanisms, which can have a detrimental effect on sonic performance. By reducing reliance on heavy global feedback, the design preserves signal integrity and maintains a more natural and uncolored audio reproduction.

The frequency response is fully linear up to 60 kHz and remains completely independent of the connected loudspeaker load. Measurement results demonstrate no deviation in frequency response between a 4-ohm loudspeaker load and an unloaded condition, confirming load-invariant performance across operating conditions.
