Ron Sutherland knows phono stages and has earned praise throughout the industry for his designs ranging from the new, affordable KC Vibe ($895) all the way up to the reference-level Argentum ($14,000-16,000).

In developing the N1 preamp ($8000), Ron was looking to produce the finest full-featured preamplifier in a single chassis that could become the building block for a high end playback system. The power supply in the N1 will accept input voltages from 90 to 260V. Once plugged in, the N1 is designed to have a 60 second warm-up and then remain on for the rest of its life, so it is always ready to sound its best.

The N1 is designed from the ground up as a dual mono preamplifier and a dual mono phono stage. This concept allows for the greatest channel separation and the lowest noise floor.

The phono stage is fully configurable with 45-60dB of gain and from 100 to 47k Ohms of load. In fact the phono stage in the N1 is derived from the PhonoBlock($10,000).

The N1 also features 2 sets of outputs per channel for ease of connecting a subwoofer, a recording device, or some other accessory. The output impedance is a miniscule 200 ohms, so basically it can drive any length of cable and should be compatible with any amplifier.

The N1 also has a remote for volume up and down as well as mute. The very cool, retro Nixie display is designed for long life and also has a display turn off control.
