VPI has announced that their award-winning 30th Anniversary Classic Turntable will increase in price from $2500 to $2750 as of April 15, 2010. The VPI Classic was the HiFi + Turntable of the Year in 2009 and will still be one of the best analog values in all of audio at the new price, but why not save 10% now?

Equipped with the JMW 10.5i Special Edition arm and a full 2 inch machined aluminum platter with silent inverted bearing, all housed in an attractive black oak or walnut base, the VPI Classic has raised the bar for affordable turntables. The design of the turntable, with it's 30 pound steel and wood chassis and 18 pound machined platter allows this table to be oblivious to vibrations from external sources.

You do not have to take our word for it, listen to HP:

“The Classic, in my opinion, exceeds the performance of [VPI’s] ScoutMaster series and breaks new sonic ground… at a breathtakingly low price. I think this is Weisfeld’s best sounding design. If ever there were a best buy in ‘tables, this is it!”
– Harry Pearson, The Absolute Sound, Golden Ear Award Issue, June/July 2009

We work with VPI through our ULTRA SYSTEMS showroom, and if you would like to take advantage of the current price on the VPI 30th Anniversary Classic turntable, please contact your favorite consultant and he will get you in line for this appropriately named "Classic."

The New Lyra Delos Cartridge
While we are on the subject of outstanding values in reference grade analog, let's take this opportunity to show you the newest Lyra cartridge - a cartridge with a difference - which is perfectly well -suited to the VPI tonearms.

While taking a fresh look at all of the parameters of a moving coil cartridge design, Jonathan Carr of Lyra came up with an engineering concept that is so basic, that it is surprising that every other cartridge designer in the world apparently has overlooked it. Moving coil cartridges have all been designed so that the iron core is perfectly centered between the coils while the cartridge is at rest. When the cartridge is lowered to an lp however, the tracking force changes the angle of the cantilever pole piece (core) by about 3 degrees, causing the magnetic flux field to shift by about the same amount (3 degrees). What Jonathan Carr did was to offset the pole piece by the same three degrees when assembling the cartridge so that the pole piece would then be perfectly centered within the magnetic flux field when the cartridge was lowered to the lp surface with a specified tracking weight!

This one change has made the design of the Lyra Delos cartridge unique and is going to be an important part of a redesign of the entire Lyra cartridge series! Three degrees does not seem like a major discovery, but in a precision device as small as a moving coil cartridge, the resulting increase in performance is astounding! The Delos tracks better, has better low level resolution, dynamic range, transient impact, and sense of immediacy.

It is also easier than other cartridges for the user to optimize on the arm because the exact tracking weight is specified by the manufacturer - no trial and error required!

If you have been thinking about upgrading your MC cartridge, consider the Lyra Delos. Equally at home with uni-pivot or fixed pivot arms, and with a .45mV output, the Delos is a serious upgrade compared to most cartridges anywhere near the $1500 price range.

Cleaner Records for the Best Sound

The best way to get your analog based system sounding better is to get your lp's as clean as possible before playing them. As mentioned above, all of the consultants at the Cable Company have analog in their home system, so we know the importance of having the vinyl as clean as possible.

There are numerous record cleaning systems on the market (and on our website) at prices ranging from $59.95 to $4199, including the unique Audio Desk Systeme utilizing ultrasonic technology at a $500 off price of $2995.

Not everyone has a vast, extensive record collection and not everyone has a budget that will allow them to splurge on one of the upper echelon machines. That is one of the reasons why it is important for our customers to know that there are good products at every price level and that our consultants know what products do the best job for any particular budget. We can even recommend and get the best cleaning solutions and record sleeves - all you have to do is to ask your Cable Company consultant!
