New 48Gig Wireworld Stellar 8K Optical HDMI 2.1 For Long Runs

The newest HDMI 2.1 specifications to accommodate the next generation of 8k video require a data rate of 48 Gigabits per second, which is difficult to maintain in conventional metal HDMI designs in lengths over a few meters. For longer lengths, to avoid loss, fiber optical cables are required. Some optical HDMI cables existed under the previous standard, but some of these have proven less reliable than metal HDMI cables, understandable because they contain complex electronics and lasers in addition to conductors.

So for the new 2.1 standard the challenges are both the high data rate and also reliability. Wireworld has done their homework and come up with what should be a very robust and reliable design for the long haul they are calling Stellar.

Stellar’s laser modules are made by the American company II-VI, a leading supplier of laser devices for demanding applications. The driver chipset is produced by the German company, Silicon-Line, a leader in microchip technology. The cable’s four high quality optical fibers are combined with double-thickness shields and several high strength Kevlar fiber bundles for increased durability and freedom from interference.

The result is a high performance and high value HDMI cable ideal for long runs of 5 to 30 meters at prices from only $450 - $700.
