Audioquest's VDM-1 Digital
Digital Cables by Audioquest
Our pricing for this product is the "MAP Pricing." This means that the prices shown here are the "minimum advertised prices" permitted by the manufacturer. Because these are already the lowest prices possible, the additional incentives usually available under "Frequent Flyer" program do not apply to this item.
THE DEFINITION OF VDM: AudioQuest/CinemaQuest VDM Series cables are designed to minimize distortion across an extremely wide bandwidth. A 75? cable is like a conduit which has to carry relatively low frequency analog video (Composite, up to 4.2MHz), or super sensitive digital audio (SP/DIF, up to 24.576 MHz), or uncompressed High Definition video (HDTV, up to 750 MHz), or cable TV/broadband (CATV, up to 1 GHz). AQ/CQ VDM (preterminated cables) and VSD (bulk installation cables) cables are designed to carry all these signals with minimum interference from the cable.
THE INGREDIENTS: VDM-1 uses a 2.5% Silver Center Conductor (2.5% SPC) insulated with Hard Cell Foam (HCF). Normal 1.25% silver-plate greatly improves high frequency performance for a fraction of the cost of solid silver. A 2.5% silver conductor is much closer to all silver, still for a fraction of the cost. Nitrogen Injected HCF reduces distortion caused by the insulating material. The combination foil and Silver-Plated braid shield provides 100% protection coverage and lower distortion. Gold-Plated RCA plugs are professionally attached with superior AudioQuest solder.
SOLID PERFECT-SURFACE SILVER: Extreme-purity PSS allows optimum signal transfer.
DIELECTRIC-BIAS SYSTEM (DBS, patent pending): When insulation is un-biased, its dielectric properties cause different amounts of time-delay for each frequency and each
Similar to how the earth's magnetic field makes all compasses point north, the AQ DBS system creates an electrostatic field which causes the molecules of the insulation to all point the same direction. This minimizes the multiple nonlinear time-delays. Corruption of time domain information in a digital audio signal is known as "jitter" a primary distortion mechanism limiting intelligibility and causing artifacts (irritation) in the sound. The 12V hardware-store batteries in DBS packs will last for years. A test button and LED allow for the occasional battery check.
HARD-CELL FOAM: Rigid micro-cellular high-density PE foam insures stable impedance and minimum reflection-induced jitter. Once DBS is attached (for 2 weeks), the normal limitations of un-biased Hard-Cell Foam are eliminated.
