Audio Magic Liquid Air Cables
|
|
Last time around we wrote about the liquid metal cables from Teo Audio. In this case performance comes at a price - the disadvantage of the Teo approach is the extremely high cost of the liquid metal itself - over $100,000 per gallon! Not surprising these cables, especially at length as with most speaker cables, can get pretty pricey.
Taking an alternate approach to the concept of a liquid conductor, Audio Magic has developed a cable line using conductive liquid polymer as the conductor material in their new "Liquid Air" series of audio cables. It must be something about using liquid as a conductor, because Audio Magic's Liquid Air cables have many of the positive attributes of the Teo cables, but the lower materials costs bring these cables into reach for many more audiophiles. Prices begin at $650/1m pair for the interconnects, and $1700/8ft speaker cables.
There are 4 models in this series of cables - the entry level Liquid Air, the Sorcerer, the Illusion and the Clairvoyant Liquid Air, with interconnects, digital, and speaker cables in each series. The various models allow systems in many price ranges the opportunity to take advantage of this new liquid polymer technology. All of the cables are treated with cryogenics and Audio Magic's proprietary MST treatment.
As with the more expensive liquid metal conductor cables from Teo Audio, the Liquid Air cables from Audio Magic are available for in-home audition through the Cable Library. Well worth testing in your system!

Audio Desk Vinyl Cleaner
|
|
The Audio Desk Vinyl Cleaner is the first and only LP cleaning machine that incorporates an ultrasonic cleaning cycle in addition to a more conventional mechanical cleaning via bi-directional rotating microfiber cleaning drums. The result is the cleanest and best-sounding LP's ever!
This is a fully automatic cleaner - just put the LP in the top slot, push the button, and come back in 5 minutes for a thoroughly cleaned and dried LP (both sides). The system is designed and engineered to ensure that the label never gets wet during the cleaning process.
The LP is dried using forced air rather than a vacuum. While vacuuming off the cleaning fluid might seem like a good idea, the physical process of a spinning LP being vacuumed through some sort of fabric "lips" (so as to not scar the LP) actually generates static electricity, which then becomes a trap for airborne dust. By using forced air drying, no static is created or transferred to the album. Ultrasonic cleaning to the bottom of the groove reveals whole new layers of inner detail and air, and of course most surface noise is eliminated.
Included with the machine are 2 vials of a proprietary cleaning fluid concentrate developed specifically for this machine. A container of the fluid concentrate plus 4 liters of distilled water (just over a gallon) cleans 200 new LP's, or 100 used LP's.
There is a quick on-line video description.
Special Offer: The Audio Desk Vinyl cleaner retails for $3495, but you can save $500 by ordering now: $2995.

Stillpoints ERS Cloth - Now even MORE uses!
|
|
An effective and low cost improvement is to use some ERS cloth in and around your system. The $24.95 ERS cloth is an 8 1/2"x11" sheet of - for lack of a better term - "paper" containing a blend of carbon fibers that has been coated with metals and topped with polyester fiber. This ERS cloth can be used in many ways in and around a system to soak up and dissipate both RF and EMI. Cut a 3"x5" piece and place it over your cd player, transport, or DAC - you will hear changes in the playback that improve the soundstage, imaging, and resolution. We recommend that you tape a whole sheet of ERS cloth to the cover of the electrical panel serving your music system for a cleaner, more dynamic sound.
We do not recommend that you use ERS cloth inside of your components because it is somewhat conductive and could cause a short, but experiment anywhere on the outside of the component(s).
Here is something new: we have gotten some customer feedback since the last article that indicates that using a piece of the ERS cloth either over or under your cable or satellite box makes for a solid improvement in picture quality.
Good idea!
