Keep it clean for better sound!

Walker Vivid, AudioDesk, RD3, Siltech

One of the most often overlooked aspects of getting better sound from a high fidelity system is keeping the media/recordings as clean and free of surface contaminates as possible.  Even when new, most cd's and LP's have some residue from the pressing that will obscure some of the finer  details of the recording.  There are a couple of new products from Walker Audio that we recommend to make your lp's and cd's as clean and pristine as possible.
Walker Audio Ultra Vivid cd/dvd Treatment
Ultra Vivid is the newest  formulation of the original Vivid treatment, which was one of the best all-around cd/dvd/sacd treatments.  This new formulation is even more effective than the original formula with additional cleaning and de-static elements.

The concept of "cleaning" a cd or dvd is basic (and even logical!).  When the disk is created and packaged, there is a release film on the disk that can "confuse" the laser reading the disk and cause the error correction circuitry to kick in.  What you hear as a result is not what the recording engineer had in mind.  In order to allow the laser to read the disk with more accuracy, the release film needs to be removed, which Ultra Vivid does quite effectively.

In addition to the release film removal, Ultra Vivid Treatment also contains an optical enhancer which makes the transparent outer layer of the disk (through which the laser reads all the data) as optically clear as possible.  Finally, Ultra Vivid also contains a  de-static agent which greatly reduces the static buildup created when a plastic disk is spinning at a high rate of speed in the player.  Why is this important?  Because the static buildup can be significant enough to cause the disk itself to become slightly "wobbly" in the vertical plane, and this means that the laser mechanism's error correction circuits are again what you hear, instead of the music on the disk itself.

We have found the Ultra Vivid to be the most effective, longest lasting cd cleaner/treatment on the market, but here is a tip: after treating the disc, treat it again, same way. And then give it a final polishing with the HFT NanoTouch cloth, which is also useful when playing a disc without, or between, treatments with the Ultra Vivid.

The NanoTouch cloth is made of nano fiber, a brand new 21st century material which is 100 times finer than "micro fiber," and has the ability to dry polish even the most delicate material without scratching (try it on your glasses or camera lenses!). For the best cleaning performance, wet or dry, the NanoTouch cloth is just the thing.  Can be washed periodically and reused indefinitely.

Walker Audio's Ultra Vivid treatment kit is $75.  The HFT Nanocloth costs $40.  Special offer, get both together for $99!

Walker Audio Prelude Record Cleaning Kit
The secret to the excellent Prelude cleaning system for LP's is that it utilizes an active, live enzyme that needs to be mixed separately when you begin a record cleaning session.

To this end, the Prelude system contains the powdered enzyme concentrate, a bottle to mix it in, a 16 ounce bottle of labratory-grade water to mix the enzyme concentrate with, a 16 oz bottle of premixed Walker standard cleaning solution, and an additional bottle of 64 oz labratory-grade water.

The steps required for getting the most from your LP's are to mix the enzyme solution and apply to the record.  Let this sit on the record for about 45 seconds to a minute, scrub, then vacuum the record dry.  Then apply the cleaning solution to the LP - let sit for 45 seconds or so, scrub, and vacuum dry.  The final step is to rinse the record with  the laboratory grade water, scrub, and again vacuum dry.

By using this system, you will hear a cleaner, more transparent soundstage, with better harmonics and improved dynamics. There are more nuances, more life, and more music in the recording than you knew existed and you are now able to hear them for the first time - even on old, familiar lp's.

The Walker Audio Prelude LP cleaning system is regularly priced at $85.00.  For this month only, our special price for the Prelude system is only $75.
Save $300 on the Ultimate Disc Upgrade: Audio Desk Systeme edge trimmer and Acoustic Revive RD-3 demagnetizer.
Audio Desk, HiFi+ Product of the Year for 2006, is a motorized cutting device designed to “true” the shape of the disc to reduce mechanical jitter,  and also to bevel the edge  to a 38° angle to reduce laser scatter. This edge is then further treated with a black marker. A 60 second, high precision process.

The results? Every disc benefits, and the better the recording, the more pronounced the improvement in focus, transient attack, detail and transparency.  Resolution of DVD’s is significantly enhanced with sharper edges, richer colors, and a deeper background.

Special offer: $599 for unit with long life blade - save $100. (Reg. $699 with special alloy blade good for 2000 disc’s. Blades are easily replaceable when they wear out.)
