Synergistic Tesla Series Cables
|
Synergistic Research Releases the new Tesla series Interconnects and Speaker Cables.
|
|
For the past few years, Synergistic Research has pushed the performance boundaries of their cable designs by applying three generations of their Active Shielding to their established cable line. Now Synergistic Research has developed some entirely new technologies and cable geometries resulting in an entirely new series of interconnects and speaker cables known as the "Tesla series"
Why the name Tesla?
The impetus for this new series of cables came from writings by Nikola Tesla in which he suggested that electrical signals could be more perfectly transferred by the use of a lens, just as light rays can be focused and transferred using a lens. The lens Tesla was referring to would align the conductors in a specific symmetrical geometry, where a precise relationship between separate conductors is maintained. With this theory in mind, the "tricon lens" was developed by Synergistic Research, and the new Tesla series of cables became a reality.
Start by making the Tesla cables more user friendly
Previous versions of Synergistic Research cables have been stiff and difficult to work with, particularly in tight spaces. The new Tesla series cables are far more flexible and easier to use than any previous Synergistic Research cables. By utilizing new conductor and dielectric materials, and completely different geometries in the new Tesla series, Synergistic has been able to improve both the performance and the flexibility of the cables at the same time. Follow that by taking the Active Shielding technology to a fourth generation
Synergistic designers have found a way to further improve the performance of Active Shielding by incorporating what they call "Zero Capacitance Active Shielding." This fourth generation technology, which has been applied to the non-Tesla products such as their active AC cables, etc., as well, reduces phase shift and delays to a significantly lower level, and the lowest noise floor Synergistic has ever been able to achieve, resulting in the blackest backgrounds and the largest dynamic range.
And what in the heck is Quantum Tunneling?
While developing this new series of cables, Synergistic Research has come up with a process called Quantum Tunneling (patent pending) that is claimed to align the molecules of the conductors on a permanent basis. This means that the conductor materials are optimized before the cable ever leaves the factory and should NEVER need to be burned in - nor should the conductors revert back to their nonaligned form over time. Those of you that have had the "pleasure" of spending 200-300 hours burning in an interconnect or speaker cable will be most appreciative of this new development.

With all that - how do the new Tesla Series Cables Sound?
|
|
Signal cables, whether made by Synergistic Research or anybody else, have NO sound of their own. A cable connects two components which do actively produce sound together: two components + one cable = a circuit. The more effectively the cable can transmit the signal in the specific circuit without damage or editorialization, the closer to their design ideals will the components operate, and therefore the better the system will sound. This is whole lesson to be learned from what we call "cable matching."
That being said, it is fair and proper to compare the new Tesla cables with X-2 series Synergistic cables in a system that had performed well with the previous series Synergistic cables. And that is what we did when the new Tesla cables made their appearance here. To say that there was an improvement in sound quality would be a major understatement.
The sound qualities that S/R cables have always been known for in the past (fast, colorful, dynamic, huge soundstage, deep bass) were all present and accounted for, but what the Tesla cables added to this list of accomplishments were greater clarity, richer harmonics, more accurate instrumental timbre and texture, more natural note decay, and the ability to layer the instrumental details within the space of the soundstage. Definitely a big step forward.
Which of the Six Models of Tesla cables fit my system?
The Tesla series cables are designed so that you can match the cable's performance to the level of components that you are using. What this means in our experience is that if you have for example a $10,000 system, the middle range of Tesla cables will sound pretty much just as good as the top stuff. In a better system the advantages of the top-line products are obvious. This is not always the case with cables - we have seen plenty of instances where super exotic cables totally transformed mid-line components into a super system. But with the Tesla series our advice is to focus on the products which fit the cost context of the system. Of course no problem to try higher or lower models using our Cable Library, but you are likely to find, as we have, that the Tesla series is a case of "horses for courses."
Having said that, we can still generalize that the TeslaX4 and the Vortex models are likely to result in a system sound which is a little smoother and warmer than the models further up the line. Also the Acoustic Reference model is a bit more analog-like in presentation than the next lower and next higher models, but without giving up detail.
Higher performance for lower cost
The net result of all of these changes is a new cable line offering significantly better performance at lower prices than the old X-2 series.

Take the Tesla Challenge
While The Cable Company has always held the belief that the best way to determine what cables sound best in your system is by trying them, Synergistic Research has adopted our approach and begun a national marketing program called "Take the Tesla Challenge".
Fortunately, as Cable Company customers, if you live in the US you have access to our cable lending library, where we have a full compliment of the new Tesla series interconnects and speaker cables, so you can hear for yourself what these cables can do for your system. Call your Cable Company consultant to set up an audition. (Outside of the US, please contact us.)
