It is designed to "true" the shape of the CD to reduce mechanical jitter, and also trims the edge of the CD to a 38 degree angle to reduce laser scatter. This edge is then further treated with a black marker. The process takes about 60 seconds and results in pronounced improvements in focus, transient attack, detail and transparency. The Audio Desk Vinyl Cleaner is the first and only LP cleaning machine that incorporates an ultrasonic cleaning cycle in addition to a more conventional mechanical cleaning via bi-directional rotating microfiber cleaning drums. The result is the cleanest and best-sounding LP's ever!
This is a fully automatic cleaner - just put the LP in the top slot, push the button, and come back in 5 minutes for a thoroughly cleaned and dried LP (both sides). The system is designed and engineered to ensure that the label never gets wet during the cleaning process.
The LP is dried using forced air rather than a vacuum. While vacuuming off the cleaning fluid might seem like a good idea, the physical process of a spinning LP being vacuumed through some sort of fabric "lips" (so as to not scar the LP) actually generates static electricity, which then becomes a trap for airborne dust. By using forced air drying, no static is created or transferred to the album. Ultrasonic cleaning to the bottom of the groove reveals whole new layers of inner detail and air, and of course most surface noise is eliminated.
Included with the machine are 2 vials of a proprietary cleaning fluid concentrate developed specifically for this machine. A container of the fluid concentrate plus 4 liters of distilled water (just over a gallon) cleans 200 new LP's, or 100 used LP's.

Black Cat Cable's Veloce, $123

The next production run of the wildly successful Black Cat Veloce digital cable is just about ready. If you missed our recent email featuring this exciting new product, this new design is derived from the recently discontinued Stereovox model XV-2, which was something of a category-killer at $250/1m. Last year the XV-2 was upgraded to the no-holds-barred current reference model called XV-Ultra ($350/1m). At the same time the Stereovox name was changed to "Stereolab" for legal reasons.
The designer's most recent challenge was to produce a near state-of-the-art digital link that could sell for a song. The Black Cat Veloce is that cable, and the way it is being sold is a big part of the story.
Building the cable in only one length, 1.23m (48.5"), facilitates critical optimization at 75 ohms, and also importantly means that it can be produced in lower cost, longer production runs. Use of Chris Sommovigo's popular universal BNC/RCA connector further supports this standardization. Add to that the skinnier than usual margins both for the manufacturer and for the dealers, and you end up with a $123 "direct price" - something of a gift to the audiophile!
