Audience's Au24 "E" Version Stereo Phono
Tonearm Cables by Audience
Manufacturer's Description:
Audience has developed proprietary technology to improve the conductivity of certain Audience cables that results in a more refined product. The basic musical character of the cables is unchanged; however they are enhanced. This technology results in the seeming removal of a veil.
NOTE: The Au24 Phonograph Cables are available as a normal impedance cable and as a low impedance cable. For phonograph cartridges requiring a low impedance load of less than 50Ω we recommend our low impedance version. For all other phonograph cartridges we recommend our normal impedance version. Please specify “normal” or “low” impedance when ordering Au24 Phonograph Cables. Otherwise, please specify the cartridge name/model and the type of connectors on both ends.
The impedance of phono cables has very little direct significance at audio level frequencies. However, impedance is an indication of inductance and capacitance of the cable which characteristics do have a significant impact on the cable's performance in relation to a given cartridge. For example, by using a low impedance cable with a low output impedance cartridge you can take advantage of the extremely low inductance of the cable. The higher capacitance of low impedance cables can easily be driven by a low impedance cartridge resulting in greater retrieval of low level information that would normally be lost in the inductance of the cable.
The opposite is true of a higher impedance cable matched with a high impedance cartridge in that the cartridge will favor the low capacitance/moderate inductance of the higher impedance cable. For these reasons Audience offers two impedance rated phono cables to optimally match various impedance phono cartridges.
